Young artists ‘draw’ inspiration for this year’s Arts Festival

Last week, Tannery Drift First School ran a workshop with students to create entries for this year’s Royston Arts Festival Schools’ Art Competition – run by Creative Royston.

The Competition which opened on March 9th and closes on April 27th, will see winning entries appearing on this September’s cover programme for Royston Arts Festival 2018.

The workshop – which was attended by schoolchildren aged 5 – 9 years – saw youngsters put forward many ideas, including being inspired by St George’s Day, travel and the sea.

Kirsten Grimmer, Chairperson Creative Royston said: “The enthusiasm shown by many of our local schools and students of all ages is phenomenal. Seeing schools like Tannery run workshops and Greneway and Icknield Walk actively encourage involvement truly validates all the work that our volunteers put into not only our competitions but the festival as a whole”.

Anna Greetham, Head of Tannery Drift First School said: “We are very proud of our creative curriculum and children get many opportunities to explore and experience high quality dance, drama, music and art. We are delighted to be able to once again work with Creative Royston to support the Arts Festival”.

The competition is open to all Schools in Royston and surrounding villages. Winners will be announced in due course with the final artwork being revealed in June.

The finished piece will be used to promote this year’s Royston Arts Festival, which takes place from September 28 to 30.

The original winning entries will be on display at Royston Library throughout September as we ramp up to the festival weekend, culminating in an auction for charity.
