East Street Arts East Street Arts

East Street Arts is a contemporary arts charity founded in 1993 in Leeds, we are an organisation with a membership that creates and provides spaces for visual artists to develop. We focus on building connections between artists and actively encourage engagement with local communities.

Taking reference and inspiration from the history and current development of the artist led movement, studios were developed in East Street Mills and our first public exhibition took place in two empty shop units underneath the railway arches in Leeds city centre. Since then we have continued to explore a myriad of contexts and issues in connection with the ‘alternative’ or non gallery space and our work now extends throughout Yorkshire, the North East, West Midlands, the East of England and London.

We have three permanent studio buildings in Leeds, one in Gateshead and have been freeing up vacant commercial premises since 2010 nationally for artistic use. We have access to a vacant shop in Watford and two offices in Stevenage available for local artists to use as showing or work space.
