Choral Concert: Haydn The Creation

Choral Concert: Haydn The Creation

“I was never so devout as when I was at work on The Creation; I fell on my knees each day and begged God to give me the strength to finish the work....I spent much time over it because I expect it to last for a long time....”

F J Haydn’s last major work is without doubt one of the masterpieces of the choral repertoire. He worked on the piece for a year and a half – believing that it would remain popular for many years. The Creation premiered in Vienna in 1798 and caused quite a stir. F J Haydn had achieved rock-star status in both Austria and England, and the streets outside the Schwarzenberg Palace were thronged with curious spectators - and thirty police officers were summoned to control them. Today the work remains hugely popular, thanks to its many memorable melodies, and irrepressible cheer.

Come and hear this marvellous work performed by Hertford Choral Society with the Orpheus Sinfonia, conducted by Manvinder Rattan

Tickets are £16 reserved, £12 unreserved, £4 students under 25
