Hertfordshire Festival of Music 2018 - The Music of  Fantasy, Fable and Folklore
 
Our 2018 Festival explores the special way in which music can take us away from the ordinary and often all too ‘real’ world into what Shakespeare called ‘something rich and strange’. With the inspiring presence of Stephen Hough we’ll experience the transformative sphere of his imagination in three remarkable ways: as pianist, composer and painter.
 
A sense of make-belief pervades the entire programme of events during our week-long Festival. From Stephen Hough’s solo and ensemble performances with the renowned Alisdair Hogarth and the Prince Consort vocal ensemble through to Tasmin Little and John Lenehan’s closing recital. We’ll have the opportunity to hear the wonderful Gemma Rosefield (cello) and Nicola Eimer (piano), Emma Halnan (flute) and Manon Fischer-Dieskau (piano) with Chris Eldred & Friends bringing their jazz trio, - and a twist of fantasy - to town.
 
The Galliard Wind Quintet makes a special appearance in a performance of Festival Co-Director James Francis Brown’s intriguing musical fairy-tale, Heralds of Good Fortune and Children can get creative with an enchanting project devised by the inimitable Adam Saunders who delights all with his musical story-telling.
 
One of the great discoveries of our 2017 Festival Masterclass was the stunning mezzo soprano Beth-Margaret Taylor and we are delighted that she will be returning in 2018 with a recital in her own right – accompanied on the piano by Haileybury’s Head of Music, Andrew O'Brien.
 
With a masterclass from Stephen Hough, interviews and even an art exhibition we think that HFoM 2018 is going to be fabulous – which is, after all, what fables are all about! Box office opens 1 March 2018.
