Death on the Rails: The Quintinshill Disaster

Death on the Rails: The Quintinshill Disaster

Death on the Rails: The Quintinshill Disaster.

The birthplace of the railways, Britain has had many famous and tragic railway disasters. However, the worst of them all is virtually unknown – an event so terrible that it massacred half an army battalion and was considered ‘worse than the trenches’ of World War One.

Exploring the circumstances and wholly avoidable errors that led to a quintuple train pile-up just outside Gretna Green in 1915, the events of Quintinshill shocked a war-weary nation, and has never been surpassed in its horror.

A talk by Transport Historian and Author Dr F.R.J. Newman on MS Teams on Wednesday 26th May - 7pm
