Bat Ecology and Survey Workshop

Bat Ecology and Survey Workshop

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust are very pleased to be working with Herts and Middlesex Bat Group to offer this introductory afternoon and evening course designed for those new to bat work.

Attendees will be given a comprehensive foundation in bat biology, identification, behaviour, ecology and conservation (including the legislation linked to planning and development). They will also be introduced to basic field survey methodologies using bat detectors.

There will be an opportunity for everyone to see (but not handle) some live bats up close, in order to examine the ID features used to separate species in the hand. The course will finish with a bat survey covering a number of habitats at a site known to support nine species of bat. All equipment will be provided and a Bat ID FSC chart will be included in the course cost.

Upon completion of the course, participants will have sufficient knowledge to undertake surveys for the National Bat Monitoring Programme, with a good foundation for developing skills for more extensive activity surveys and emergence surveys.

£65 per person. Booking link: https://www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/events/2020-03-21-bat-ecology-and-survey-workshop
