Open Air Sculpture Exhibition - first piece arrives

The team at Knebworth were delighted to take delivery of the first piece for this summer's open air exhibition.

Sculptor John Sydney Carter FRBS personally delivered the bronze ‘Heron’. John finds inspiration for his work from his love of the sea and waterways near his house, situated close to the Grand Union Canal.

The exhibition is curated by British Art Portfolio in association with Knebworth House. The show will feature work from contemporary British sculptors, incorporating some established names alongside inspiring new talent to create a show that will enlighten, provoke, excite and charm the visitor.

Henry Lytton Cobbold commented: “It was a great thrill to plant a piece as splendid as John’s ‘Heron’ in the centre of Gertrude Jekyll’s herb garden for the summer – it looks splendid and whets the appetite for a tremendous sculpture exhibition in July and August.”

The exhibition opens to the public on 9th July and runs until 31st August. More information can be found on the Events section of the Knebworth House website.

Entrance to the Sculpture exhibition is included in the Knebworth Park and Gardens admission ticket making for a very good value day out. The 28 acres of formal Gardens at Knebworth House are looking spectacular this spring. Also, families can enjoy a visit to the Adventure Playground as well as the famous Dinosaur Trail and maze in the Gardens. Knebworth House can be visited for a small additional supplement.
