Croxley Green Wassail 2020

Croxley Green Wassail 2020

On Friday 17th January 2020 at 7pm, everyone is welcome to attend the fantastic and slightly weird Croxley Green Wassail.
Starting from outside the Coach and Horses Public House on The Green we will then process to nearby Stones Orchard to 'Wassail' the apple trees.

Apple Orchard Wassailing is held on Old Twelfth Night (17 January) as a ritual to ask the Gods for a good apple harvest. Those present form a circle around the largest apple tree, hang pieces of toast soaked in cider in the branches for the robins, who represent the 'good spirits' of the tree. We then make lots of noise with pots and pans (and anything else you may bring with you) to scare away evil spirits and the group sings a specifically written Croxley Wassailing song.

The event takes about an hour and is family friendly and welcoming. We will be joined by the Chiltern Nemerton Grove Druid Group, and Phoenix Morris will entertain us with dancing both before and after the Wassail.

After the event there will be folk singing in the Coach & Horses for anyone who wants to take part or just listen. GO ON, what else will you have to do on a cold night in January?

Parking is availabe in local roads but no specific arrangemnt are made.
