Cupcake Decorating with Immaculate Confections - FREE session

Join multi award winning cake designer Natalie Porter live from the Immaculate Confections studio, as she shares some fun making cupcakes. Suitable for all ages, from kids to young at heart, Natalie will be decorating cupcakes, but can also answer your cake creation questions if you submit them via chat during the live session.

This activity forms part of the Southern Maltings July Festival Calendar celebrating the arts and health and wellbeing in the community.

Our festival is all about making people aware of fun and exciting things to do – be it live sessions, links to activities to try or packs to download.

This event is part of the Southern Maltings contribution to Hertfordshire’s Year of Culture (July theme of Cultural Olympiad), as well as being our own reaction to the unavoidable loss of this years Ware Festival and it’s associated activities.

Please enjoy what we have arranged as it is all free (or very heavily subsidised) and all the tutors/teachers have donated their time for which we truly appreciate.

If you like what we have to offer, come and visit us and our lovely tutors when we’re allowed to re-open soon.

Southern Maltings is the trading name of Ware Arts Centre Limited and is a registered charity (Registered charity no. 276998). All events are run by volunteers and proceeds go towards developing the Southern Maltings into an amazing creative arts centre which will enable us to put on a wider and more frequent range of events and activities for the whole community.

In her own words, from her website, here’s a little bit about why Natalie is passionate about cakes.

I’m Natalie Porter, founder and owner at Immaculate Confections.

It began a quite a few years ago with a wedding cake….my wedding cake actually.

When my husband and I were planning our wedding we soon realised that we wanted something personal and different for our cake… we weren’t able to find that locally so I took on the challenge of making our wedding cake myself. As we both love all things fantasy and sci-fi we decided that a cake version of Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings would be perfect for us. It was unique, personal and special, forming the perfect centrepiece for our day –

that’s what I want to create for you.

Every wedding cake I create begins with a chat and design consultation. Each is designed and sketched from scratch drawing together all aspects of our discussion, thus producing a unique wedding cake which will suit both your wedding and personality.

I have a passion for design, colour and attention to detail. For me, cake is an art form. As a result the eye-catching designs I create are regularly featured in a number of industry leading magazines and blogs. In particular I am proud to have been commissioned to create a number of exclusive projects for ‘Cake Craft Guides’ and ‘Cake Decoration and Sugarcraft’ magazines and to date, have won four Gold awards for my designs at Cake International, the world’s largest cake convention and competition. In recent times I have turned my hand to teaching sugarcraft. It’s a joy to pass my knowledge and experience on to others and see how pleased my students are when they successfully complete a project.

I also enjoy making novelty cakes in all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes, from a bright red London Bus to an Alien egg complete with face-hugger. A couple of years ago I was asked to make a Hogswatch cake for the Discworld Emporium, which as a self-confessed lover of all things sci-fi and fantasy was a really fun opportunity.
