17 week part-time placement from August 2019

Are you looking to develop your knowledge of archaeological finds?

The Headley Trust and Portable Antiquities Scheme are offering the opportunity to gain practical experience in recording archaeological objects found by the public. It is a great chance to build your skills and knowledge in this area and develop your career as a small-finds specialist.

If you are a graduate in archaeology with some experience in dealing with archaeological small finds who is now looking to apply your knowledge and develop these skills within a busy and challenging working environment, then this would be the ideal role for you.

As well as giving you the chance to work alongside the Finds Liaison Officer to get a taste of working life as a Finds Liaison Assistant, you will also have the chance to:

-Improve your knowledge and understanding of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and Prehistoric to Post Medieval finds in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire
-Identify, record and photograph an array of archaeological objects
-Develop relationships with local people, including archaeologists and metal detectorists

The post is based as Verulamium Museum and managed by Matthew Fittock, Finds Liaison Officer for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The post is available for 30 hours a week (Monday-Thursday, 7.5 hours a day), for 17 weeks at a rate of £10 per hour. Due to the nature of the job it is essential that you can work some evenings.

An excellent communicator with good working knowledge of databases and Photoshop, you must be keen to learn and develop further. Full support and guidance will be provided to during the placements to the point that you will be able to confidently work independently.
