Women of Watford

Women of Watford

Since October 2019 Watford Women Centre has been facilitating an arts and crafts group. The women are exploring a variety of materials whilst bringing a professional and nonprofessional stance towards art-making which has encouraged new ways of thinking. The art process enables an exploration of commonality and differences in the group and It has been a place for belonging, increasing confidence, wellbeing, and empowerment.

Watford Museum will be hosting an exhibition of the women’s artwork for the whole of March to raise awareness of International Women’s Day. The private view will take place on the 8th of march at 11:00-14:00. The theme of International women’s day is ‘An equal world is an enabled world’, and we believe this should be applied within our galleries. The exhibition hopes to start a fundamental intervention of equality and inclusion into our Hertfordshire galleries. To challenge the absence of art made by women, and to shift the power dynamic from object to producer.
