Body and Soul
This exhibition presents Sculpture by John Farnham, based on human and animal forms, complemented by new paintings by Lotte Farnham, which draw on her memories of family and nature.
John Farnham worked as assistant for Henry Moore until the sculptor’s death in 1986. He has exhibited widely in this country and abroad and his sculptures can be found in major collections. His latest commission was a large bronze for Pembroke College in Cambridge. John creates works in bronze, stainless steel, stone and marble. He is particularly passionate about carving. It is the process of elimination and “listening” to the stone which excites him.
His wife, Lotte, Austrian-born, is a painter and printmaker. Although her work is generally quite abstract, she likes to tell a story. The paintings shown in this exhibition mirror her emotional involvement with nature, particularly the woodland (she grew up on the edge of a large forest), as well as the human condition.
Her paintings are colourful and beautiful and John’ sculptures are very tactile. This is an appealing exhibition, to be enjoyed by all.
