Mural Community Artists Wanted

The St Albans City and District Council’s Community Engagement Team is inviting proposals from community artists to decorate hoardings surrounding a development site in the Sopwell area of the district.
The artists will work with local schools and community groups in the area to develop the theme of what they like in Sopwell and in St Albans more widely. This may include some interpretation of the open spaces and play areas, the schools and city centre attractions.
The generated art work will then be transferred onto the hoardings either by groups of pupils and residents facilitated by the artists or directly by the artists themselves.
We are looking for Community Artists with knowledge of the local area and who have experience of engaging with schools and community groups.
The site is large (each length of hoarding is between 20- 40 metres) so we anticipate that artists may want to work on just one side of it and are therefore will consider awarding contracts to multiple artists.

To be considered, please send a CV, highlighting your experience working in different community settings on similar projects and a proposal of no more than one A4 page (200 words) outlining how you would approach this project and your costs (including all materials and equipment) to:

Peggy Sharp, Community Engagement Project Officer, St Albans City and District Council, at:
peggy.sharp@stalbans.gov.uk no later than Wednesday 31st May midday.

We would like the projects to be underway before the school term (July 2017) finishes hence the short closing date.
