Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies are recruiting a temporary archivist to catalogue a series of accessions relating to the Hertfordshire Yeomanry and the Hertfordshire Regiment, 1663 – 1994. These predominantly consist of photographs, ephemera and research notes of Colonel J. D. Sainsbury (1938 - 2013). The project will involve adding records to the existing classification scheme, re-referencing some material already catalogued and overseeing a volunteer project to catalogue and digitise the many images.

We are looking to recruit a qualified professional archivist with experience of appraising and cataloguing a complex collection onto a recognised collection management system. Experience of CALM would be an advantage as would knowledge of military history as you will need to get to understand the complex administrative history. Knowledge of collections care is essential along with the ability to meet project deadlines.

You will also have the communication skills to supervise and train volunteers and to contribute to the promotion of the archive. At the end of the project, you will be expected to take part in an event to mark its completion and deliver a presentation on your work with the collection.

This is an externally funded post, provisionally starting in March. The role is part time, preferably two days a week, for four months. However, the numbers of days are flexible.
