The introduction of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in May 2018 is fast approaching and has resulted in a lot of scare stories and concern among the charitable and voluntary sectors about what this will mean. While the new laws are a significant update on existing data protection legislation and the level and potential for fines will increase, there is no need for widespread panic just yet. Much of what is introduced by the GDPR is about taking a sensible approach to protecting individual's rights in the contemporary digital world we live in. This latest Briefing from Voluntary Arts gives you a simple guide to what the new legislation will mean for charities, voluntary and community groups.

Download the Briefing here: https://www.voluntaryarts.org/gdpr-data-protection for a simple guide explains in plain English, including:

• What GDPR covers
• Types of data
• Principles of GDPR
• Definitions of key terms
• Individuals' rights
• The steps you need to take
• FAQs (including mailing lists, children's rights and photography)

With less than six months to go until GDPR becomes law, now is the time to read through this guidance and determine what steps your organisation needs to take to ensure you are compliant by 25 May 2018.
