Funding available for Kirklees Play in the Community programme

Funding available for Kirklees Play in the Community programme

Kirklees Council’s Integrated Youth Support Service (IYSS) in partnership with Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing are inviting applications for schemes which encourage environmental and creative play such as den building; imaginative indoor space making; story making; visual arts; film making; music making; and food-based activities.

Funding is being made available to encourage term time play in the community schemes in the following areas:

Dewsbury
London Park Estate
Thornhill
Dewsbury Moor

Batley and Spen
Windybank Estate
Staincliffe
Foldings

Huddersfield South and Holme & Colne Valley
Lowerhouses
Walpole Estate
Golcar
New Mill

The Play in the Community programme is for 8-12 year olds.

The funding scheme also wants to support physical play including co-operative games, parachute games, street dance, bike rides, sports, drama, growing, and geo-caching. Ideally the scheme organisers will discuss with young participants their thoughts on the current activities and what they would like to see.

A funding pot of £52,000 is available for 2015-2016 for voluntary and community organisations to deliver the schemes which are being targeted at areas at risk of anti-social behaviour.

Successful groups will need to run a consultation in November and December 2015 followed by an activity programme beginning in January 2016 through to October 2016.

The deadline for applications is September 10, 2015 and application forms are available by emailing IYSS.Projects@kirklees.gov.uk with ‘play pack’ in the title, or by calling 01484 221000 (ask for Katy Peasley).
