Lead Artist: Quilting, Mind the Gap

Lead Artist: Quilting, Mind the Gap

Mind The Gap is seeking an experienced quilt maker / facilitator to lead on a large scale quilt making project, bringing together people from across communities to make pieces of patchwork, in response to the themes of ‘family’ and ‘place’.

Details from Mind the Gap are below:

The project takes place across four locations: Newcastle/Gateshead, Bradford, Calderdale and London/Southwark.

The Lead Artist can deliver the entire project, or recruit and coordinate local quilt-maker / facilitators to deliver on location (within available fee), and pulling together the final quilt.

Exact dimensions are not yet available. It is estimated the final quilt will need to be very large. Together we will establish the best methods for achieving the combined aim of community involvement and delivery at scale.

5-7 July 2018 Newcastle: 3 days of Quilting Workshops at Northern Stage, connected to Great Exhibition of the North.

Mid-End August Newcastle: North East section of quilt to be displayed

Sep 2018 to Feb 2019 Bradford, Calderdale and London: Quilting Workshops to be arranged, approx. 4 days in each location

Mar 2019 Delivery of finished quilt

Fee: Freelance. Approx. 20 days in total.

Fixed fee £4,500 for delivery of all workshops and final quilt making.

Additional budget is available for quilting materials and reasonable travel expenses.
