Screen Yorkshire Launches Film Industry Bootcamp for 2016

Screen Yorkshire Launches Film Industry Bootcamp for 2016

Screen Yorkshire is calling for applications from new and emerging talent to a brand new Film Industry Bootcamp. The four day intensive programme, supported by Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, aims to help new entrants make the leap from training to industry via a combination of sessions and first hand on set experience.

Aimed at expanding the region’s crew base, the Film Industry Bootcamp has been established in response to the increase in production in the region since the launch of Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund in 2012. It will give participants a better knowledge of what it’s like to work in the film industry and how to break into it. Participants will be given a thorough grounding on the workings of each department via two days of sessions with leading industry speakers. A detailed careers workshop will help participants get their CV’s into tip-top condition and offer hints, tips and insider info on career progression and development. The classroom based sessions will be followed by a behind the scenes visit to a real life film set and a mock recce and production meeting aimed at demonstrating how each department works together to deliver the finished product.

BAFTA award winning producer Diarmid Scrimshaw said: The Yorkshire filming scene is going from strength to strength and I think the more local crew we can have in play the better. Bootcamp is a really good access point in for people starting off and I'm sure will be of great value to people wanting to learn about how the industry works and how to get involved with it

Gavin Humphries, Film Partnership Manager, Creative Skillset, adds: The UK is world renowned for our fantastic crews. We’re keen to make it easier for young people all over the country to get their first opportunity in the film industry. Screen Yorkshire’s programme will make this happen.

Applications are welcomed from recent Yorkshire-based graduates or those thinking of a career change to film and television. Screen Yorkshire particularly welcomes applications from those who consider themselves to have a disability, or applicants with a BAME background.

Screen Yorkshire’s Film Industry Bootcamp is supported by Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, which is funded by the BFI with National Lottery funds, through the Skills Investment Fund
