Most of my work has been in public sculpture and installations. It means working on a scale compatible with being in the open, where particular attention must be given to producing a lasting work with assurance of durability and safety. To this end, I work with engineers and choose materials, such as steel and stainless steel, that are not only versatile but are also resistant to weather and human intervention. I love these materials for their qualities of variety and structural strength. I also use stone in natural form as a contrasting and complimentary material. Continually experimenting with these materials produces works in new forms that relate to the place where they will be located.

I am interested in the material of our planet and the climate that affects it, having worked with scientists in trying to interpret aspects of this in my work. I use natural resources: daylight, on reflective surfaces and open structures, to create strong visual connections to the surroundings, and wind to drive kinetic sculptures. I use lighting technologies, often with colour, to reveal a different aspect of the sculpture in darkness hours.

I have successfully carried out many public commissions, including sculptures for towns and cities, universities, schools and colleges, in the UK and abroad.
