The Feijoa Project in partnership with Cockington Court Craft Centre is looking to recruit a self-employed gardener to assist with the Walled Art Garden at Cockington Court. The Feijoa project is a new and exciting community initiative company working in partnership with Cockington Court, to promote equality in a community setting for those who might be disadvantaged, particularly those who may have a learning disability.

We are looking for applications for a Gardener position to work with the newly appointed project coordinator and to support the Directors and partnership to deliver an exciting project aimed at developing vulnerable adults through the delivery of the project located at Cockington Court Walled Art Garden (WAG Project).
The Project seeks to provide basic garden maintenance skills for vulnerable individuals (particularly those from a learning disability background). The project has been delivering for 2 years and now and seeks to build upon this success and develop the project into its next stage.
This is a great opportunity for an imaginative, hardworking and equal opportunity minded individual who is interested in being involved in developing a new and dynamic opportunity for those participating in the project.
The Gardener position is freelance and the successful candidate must be able to lead on the maintenance of the Walled Art Garden. They will develop the vision and existing concept of the Walled Art Garden with the project coordinator and the Centre Director of Cockington Court. The Feijoa project seeks someone with a good understanding of propagation, crop rotation, pruning and general gardening concepts alongside having a positive, patient and understanding outlook. We are seeking an individual who will lead on the general maintenance of the Walled Art Garden and who is willing to try something new, is able to pass on skills and answer questions from the public.
The Gardener will offer direction and practical assistance for those participating and will deliver in keeping with the general ethos and concept of the garden. The gardener will be expected to deliver training to those volunteers attending and where appropriate, offer a degree of support and care. The gardener should be willing to use their gardening skills to develop a non-traditional Walled Art Garden whilst keeping the integrity of an organic garden.
The position will be part time up to 18 hours, delivered over 2 – 3 days per week. The initial contract will have a degree of flexibility but will run until September with a possible further contract offer dependant on partnership funding and successful delivery.
DBS clearance will be needed to allow work with vulnerable adults.
Closing date for applications: noon on Monday 18th May 2015.
