In a Landscape
Seven artists have worked together for the last 12 months to explore the experience of the working within the landscape.
Opening View: Tuesday 7 June, 6.30 - 8.30 pm
Exhibition open: 10 am - 5 pm Monday - Saturday, 11 am - 4 pm Sunday
Of her process, Hazel Strange explains, “An important part of my painting is walking through the landscape to arrive at a viewpoint. Rarely is this reached by stepping out of the car and pointing my camera. During the walking I’m considering how other people have travelled the route: on foot, on horseback or laden with contraband. I’ve become obsessed with the traces left by recent visitors – a plastic duck on a beach, a dropped glove, and some will be in evidence alongside my more recognisable paintings.”
Sandra Litchfield works with pewter, copper, wood and found objects, looking closely at the landscape under our feet, while Ysabel Winzar's work refers to "the stuff of my life".
Primarily a print-maker, Sue Williams’ body of work will include etched metals inspired by waterways initially made for our industrial landscape. Lin Cudlipp’s dynamic paintings explore a personal connection to the land, while Maggie Smith’s printmaking and mixed media works are inspired by her immediate surroundings: garden, fields and coastline. Denise Orchard’s expressive oil paintings aim to capture the atmosphere, light and changing moods of the coast and stormy skies.
