Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival

hcmf// - the UK's largest international festival of experimental and new music.

The 38th hcmf// promises a programme filled with cutting-edge music from a host of leading international composers and performers, including Composer in Residence Jürg Frey, Klangforum Wien, AMM, George Lewis, Zbigniew Karkowski, La Monte Young, Apartment House, Jagoda Szmytka, the Arditti Quartet, Jakob Ullmann, The Riot Ensemble, Maja S K Ratkje and the London Sinfonietta amongst others.

From Mexico to the USA and Québec, from Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Luxemburg and France, ensembles, quartets and soloists are travelling to perform at hcmf// this year - not counting, of course, favourites and newcomers from the UK!

Austrian supergroup Klangforum Wien make a welcome return to Huddersfield to open hcmf// 2015 with a rich programme of UK Premieres by European composers Pierluigi Billone (Italy), Agata Zubel (Poland), Beat Furrer (Switzerland) and Peter Jakober (Austria), while the Festival closes with a remarkable reunion - the first appearance in a decade of the classic line-up of pianist John Tilbury, drummer Eddie Prévost and guitarist Keith Rowe, celebrating the 50th anniversary of AMM.

The act of listening - whether it be to the wide, quiet sound spaces of ‘Wandelweiser' composer Jürg Frey, the extreme registers of noise artist Zbigniew Karkowski or the idea of listening as a political force - emerges as pervasive underlying theme in at this year's Festival, which also boasts a total of 25 world and 79 UK premieres - including freshly-minted works by Jürg Frey, Jakob Ullmann, Naomi Pinnock, Francisco Coll, Jonty Harrison, Maura Lanza and Øyvind Torvund.

As always, demand is expected to be high for many of these events so please do book early to avoid any disappointment.

Tickets for this year's Festival can be bought via the Box Office on 01484 430528.
