Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem

Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem

A performance of this mighty choral work in an arrangement accompanied by one piano (four hands) and timpani (three kettledrums).

Brahms Requiem is unlike almost any other requiem in the repertoire. Most composers used the Latin text of the Roman Catholic Mass for the Dead. Brahms based his work on texts from Luther's German translation of the Bible and his purpose was to compose a work which offered comfort to the living rather than praying for the souls of the dead.

Brahms wrote this deeply moving piece of music in his early thirties. It was soon recognised as a masterpiece of exceptional vision and established his international reputation as a composer.

Soloists and players: Charlotte Brosnan (soprano), Stephen Kennedy (bass), Jonathan Eyre and Tammas Slater (pianists), Aaron Townsend (timpanist). MD: Manvinder Rattan

Tickets £20 (centre aisle reserved), £15 unreserved side aisle, £5 students
