Open Singing Day - Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem

Open Singing Day - Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem

Brahms Requiem is unlike almost any other requiem in the repertoire. Most composers used the Latin text of the Roman Catholic Mass for the Dead. Brahms based his work on texts from Luther's German translation of the Bible and his purpose was to compose a work which offered comfort to the living rather than praying for the souls of the dead. Brahms wrote this deeply moving piece of music in his early thirties. It was soon recognised as a masterpiece of exceptional vision and established his international reputation as a composer.
The Requiem is a fantastic experience for choral singers. Join HCS for a day as they prepare for their spring concert. The workshop will be led by MD Manvinder Rattan together with vocal coach Charlotte Brosnan
