Flow 1
This is the first of a series of abstracted calligraphy images, inspired by my time in Japan and the many hours I spent in calligraphy lessons.
I struggled for years, as a 'foreign' left-hander, but finally realised that I can draw/write as it suits me, and that understanding led to a flurry of activity as I tried different brushes, papers, acrylic paints and canvases.
The start of each line (or vertical column) in Flow:1 is one of the first kana or characters that every beginner learns from. i-ro-ha-ni-ho-he-to-chi and so on. Once I had put those inititial chacters down, I was then free to write my abstracts. The writing goes from top to bottom, right to left.
It was great fun just giving my brush and ink the freedom to write what they wanted. To flow.
