Finding creative work in new settings:
Museums, Galleries and Heritage sites

There are untapped opportunities for writers, and other artists, to work in museums, galleries and heritage sites (as a writer/artist in residence, giving performances or running creative workshops for example)
This session will explain how to make sure you are prepared and ensure you have some honed skills to make your work in new settings a success. In addition there will be advice on how to take the initiative in creating new work in these settings including covering your costs and working in partnership.

In the current economic climate, it is vital that practitioners have the skills and knowledge to respond to different opportunities.
Operating in community settings is an area where practitioners can gain new skills and diversify their income - these settings can include education, health, criminal justice, business, intergenerational and youth work, as well as cultural and heritage organisations, including museums and galleries.
Following the success of last year’s pilot training sessions, Inroads Productions and New Writing South are pleased to offer a new programme for 2012.

These sessions aim to help artists from all disciplines develop their skills in working in these areas. to be in a position to take advantage of opportunities, to professionalise their practice to be ready to broaden their sphere of work, and to take the initiative in creating projects and working in partnership.

You will be able to participate in a half day training working with expert representatives from the sector, plus case studies and tips from artists with experience of the work. Working across discipline, you will be able to benefit from specialist knowledge and learn tool box exercises and top tips.

Alongside this, we are also offering a day in How to manage your career - and still have money to feed the cat! with a view to empowering artists to successfully apply for funding and manage and deliver their own projects.

How to manage your career and still have money to feed the cat!
How to plan, manage and deliver successful projects, including make funding applications and an overview of the current creative and cultural industries landscape and initiatives that you can benefit from.

Cost - £45 for one session, £80 for two sessions and/or for the full project management day
