Call out for artists/creative writers/musicians
Call out for artists/creative writers/musicians to help us deliver A Space To Be …, a Hertfordshire based wellbeing project for young people supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Closing date: Sunday 24 November
Project duration: January to December 2020
A Space To Be … is a Hertfordshire wellbeing project aimed at young people aged 14 to 18 inspired by the collections of six museums: Mill Green Museum, Hatfield; North Herts Museum, Hitchin; Royston Museum; St Albans Museum + Gallery; Stevenage Museum and Watford Museum. Each venue will host three programmes, one each term, consisting of nine two-hour sessions. Working with collections which ideally need interpretation or include newly acquired objects we want to use the arts to draw out stories which reflect participants’ own experiences.
We are looking for artists in a range of disciplines who have experience of delivering successful wellbeing projects with young people. We are looking for practitioners with a flexible approach to leading workshops as we want to be guided by the young people’s reactions to individual collections of objects/ephemera. If you have previously worked in heritage settings this would be an advantage but it is not essential.
We will work closely with artists and museum teams to ensure that we have the best combination of art form and museum collection but of course location will also be taken into account.
We welcome applications from those with lived experience of poor mental health. We are unable to accept applications from dance or film artists for this project.
Please send your cv along with a short (maximum 200 word) proposal as to how you would approach this project and structure sessions to Jo Askham, Project Manager, A Space To Be … at aspacetobeherts@gmail.com
