Hi! I’m Leila. I am a French and Egyptian freelance illustrator based in the beautiful region of Hertfordshire in the UK.

I enjoy creating whimsical, character-driven illustrations, and have a particular soft spot for drawing little children and anthropomorphic animals. My approach is to always make it “loveable and relatable.”

A long time expat and a traveller until recently, I am particularly interested in stories that promote the importance of mental health, inclusivity, tolerance and understanding.

I always start with a rough pencil sketch. I work on that sketch until I am satisfied and then move on to either colouring pencils or digital to add colours and textures. I love to experiment with various digital media that emulate traditional media. You’ll find examples of such experiments throughout my portfolio.

I love Judith Kerr’s work, as well as Helen Oxenbury’s, Mick Inkpen and Ross Collins art and stories. I have always been a big fan of Sarah Kay and Beatrix Potter.

My dream would be to leave behind a legacy of unique and genuine books for children to pass along to other children.
