Let's Build A Sound System workshop

Let's Build A Sound System workshop

Learn how to construct a speaker box from CNC cut plywood and install a high-quality speaker driver. The design of the speaker is based on the iconic ‘Scoop’ bass bin. The Scoop is a classic design and a favourite among contemporary reggae sound systems.

Using pre-cut wood allows the speakers to be made without the use of power tools, making the activity safe for young people and easy for wood working novices. Building this miniaturised Scoop introduces participants to some of the materials, techniques and concepts used to build a full sized sound system. Learn the art of speaker building and get to make your own functional loudspeaker that you can keep as a memento of the event.

Please note, on arrival you will need to register at the Oastler Building entrance foyer.

The workshop forms part of the Let’s Play Vinyl National Tour developed by Let's Go Yorkshire in partnership with the University of Leicester, Goldsmiths-University of London, Birmingham City University and the University of Huddersfield.
