Much More Than Meets the Eye

Exhibition of collage works by young artist James Owen Thomas.

13th July 2018 – 10th September 2018

James uses discarded scratch cards to create pictures. Nowadays, many of the used scratch cards that he uses are donated by people he knows, and also some shops which are good enough to save them for James.

James' palette of colours to create collages comes from the various scratch cards that he finds and collects. By adding layers of cut or torn pieces of scratch cards, he can create a 3D effect in his art.

James has created a series of mining themed images for this exhibition at the National Coal Mining Museum.

During the summer on Sunday 15th July, James will be hosting a family friendly workshop to demonstrate the technique that he uses to make his collages and inviting visitors to take part.
