Steve Knightley is the songwriting force behind Show of Hands, widely acclaimed as the finest acoustic roots duo in England and with three Royal Albert Hall sell-outs to their name. In 2010 Steve won the best original song for “Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed” at the BBC Radio2 Folk Awards.

As lead patron for the huge Primary Schools Festival, Telling Tales, Steve will be performing a special solo gig at Paignton’s Palace Theatre on Sunday 26th February.
Telling Tales is a festival that celebrates identity, heritage and creativity for young people in Torbay. The festival organiser, Paignton Community College’s Advanced Skills Teacher, Jess Hunter said “We are so thrilled that our patron will be supporting this important event for the second year running. Thanks to support from Show of Hands last year, we were able to promote a love of creativity and the arts for a second year running.”
Steve Knightley is renowned for his strong, trademark narrative songs which reflect the escapades, hopes and fears not only of people in his native West Country but beyond and he pulls no punches when writing highly literate songs about bigger, global issues.
The Exeter-based singer-songwriter writes the majority of material for Show of Hands, which also features multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer, and together they won the Best Duo in the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Steve continues his success as a solo artist with his annual tour and has released 4 solo albums the latest “Live in Somerset” was recorded in early 2011.
BBC Radio 2’s Mike Harding recently described Steve as “one of England’s greatest songwriters” while MOJO wrote: “Steve Knightley’s songs have developed such an edge it’s hard to deny them any longer.”
