Shiona is a playwright whose work has emerged from a career in teaching Drama. She has taught in schools, college and university, on a variety of performance courses. She has considerable experience in devising plays and a wide knowledge of dramatic text. Her first play Baby Bank was produced at The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham in 2004.

Since then she has worked for theatre companies such as Forest Forge, Show of Strength, Theatre West, Northumberland Theatre Company,Tangle, Burn the Curtain , Kaleider, and Theatre Royal Plymouth. She writes plays for both adults and young performers. In 2009 she was writer-on-attachment at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre. Her play At the Hop has been published by Forest Forge in Three Plays for Rural Audiences. Hard Shoulder, a play for 12-16 year-olds was a prizewinner in the 2010 Trinity Guildhall International Playwriting Competition. More recently, A Soldier's Sketchbook, won a Wildfire Critic's Choice Award at Exeter's 2014 Ignite Festival of Theatre and The Company of Wolves, a collaboration with Burn the Curtain, was an Argus Art Angel winner at The Brighton Festival in 2015.

Shiona enjoys delivering workshops in both Drama and Creative Writing. She has contributed to the Creative Learning programme at Theatre Royal Plymouth, Devon Arts in Schools Initiative, and Symbiotic Theatre.
