Guest Curator for 'Revisiting the Romans' at Verulamium Museum

Are you looking for an opportunity to tell new stories, celebrate alternative objects, attract new audiences and breathe new life into our expansive Verulamium Museum collection? You could as our 'Revisiting the Romans' Guest Curator

'Revisiting the Romans' Project Overview:
Having attained Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation status, we are excited to offer a second opportunity for a paid Guest Curator to research and curate an intervention within our Verulamium Museum galleries. This is the second in a series of similar intervention opportunities, and this particular one we would like to focus on the lives of women within Roman Verulamium.

As Guest Curator you will receive a fixed fee of £3000 for this project, plus a budget of £2500 for costs associated with the intervention. There will be additional budget £1,750 for marketing, associated events and the creation of related formal learning resources.

The intervention will be installed in the Verulamium Museum in February 2024, to open in March 2024.

Guest Curator Responsibilities
• Present an intervention proposal and budget to curatorial team, including an exhibition concept, ‘big idea’ statement and preliminary object list
• Develop strategy for attracting new audiences to visit the intervention and the wider Museum
• Implement comprehensive evaluation measures
• Undertake in-depth research into the lives of women within Roman Verulamium
• Prepare a confirmed object list and finalised exhibition concept
• Work with curatorial team to secure loaned objects, prepare St Albans Museums’ objects for display, and follow other collection processes
• Draft all interpretation material in line with St Albans Museums policies and seek curatorial team sign-on before overseeing production
• Develop a strong visual identity for the exhibition, in line with brand guidelines
• Support with press and marketing associated with the project, including supplying copy/images for press releases, website and What’s on
• Lead on the intervention installation process
• Deliver at least one public talk or similar event
• Be prepared to work with volunteers to support the delivery of the display
• Participate in project evaluation
• Respond to emails within 3-5 business days
