Mahali
Swahili (n): the place where a journey begins

In February 2010 students from Dartmouth Community College took part in a two day intensive visual and sound art workshop with Amsterdam based artists skip&die.

During the workshop and in the time leading up to the exhibition students began to explore the boundaries faced within their own lives and also those that may exist between different art forms and contexts.

In the period between the workshop and the exhibition, students investigated the role of a curator by being directly involved in the curation of the exhibition.

The exhibition will feature exciting visual and sound work created during the two day workshop.

Mahali is curator Gareth Ballyn’s second collaboration with Dartington, following the successful The Drowning Room project. Ballyn is using the workshops and exhibition as research into current curatorial practice around visual art work produced in schools.
