Brother Mule (USA/UK trio) concert in Meltham

Playing a blend of bluegrass, Americana, Celtic folk and Western Swing, Brother Mule was formed over ten years ago by American musicians Brian Wicklund and Ben Winship. They’ll be joined on their UK tour by London-based Ben Somers. Mandolin player Ben Winship is a well respected songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist and over the past 25 years, life on the road has taken him everywhere from Hawaii to Shetland. He also runs his own recording studio, The Henhouse, back home in the western state of Idaho. Brian Wicklund from Minnesota took up the violin aged seven, and has spent many decades recording and touring nationally and internationally. He’s also the author of the bestselling American Fiddle Method tuition series, and teaches at dozens of music camps every year. Ben Somers (double bass/vocals/sax) is a versatile musician involved in many genres of music as a performer, writer and arranger. As well as being a renowned bass player on the UK bluegrass scene, his day job as a session musician sees him playing sax for big names like Dr John and Seal.

The Carlile Institute is the home of Meltham Community Hub, a charity which is doing great work to bring community life back to this fine 19th Century building. The Carlile has recently benefited from refurbishment work thanks to major grant funding, including a new lift to give full access to the first floor and the concert room. After a fantastic sold-out concert as part of the building’s 125th Anniversary celebrations in October, this will be the first full True North Music event featuring touring American musicians. There will also be a licensed bar hosted by Meltham Community Hub volunteers.
