Arts and Crafts sessions by the Watford Women's Centre
Since October 2019 Watford Women Centre have been facilitating an arts and crafts group at the GoKula Cafe. The women are exploring a variety of materials whilst bringing a professional and nonprofessional stance towards the art making which has encourage new ways of thinking. The art process enables an exploration of commonality and differences in the group and It has been a place for belonging, increasing confidence, wellbeing and empowerment.
In January 2020 Watford Women Centre is pleased to announce an alliance with Watford Museum, who is supporting the centre by providing a space for the women’s art making from 10:30 – 12:30 every Thursday. The group is facilitated by Art therapist Rebecca Holland, volunteers Bina Patel, Mariam and Artist Annette Kelly. This is an open group for women to connect, create and find value within the art making.
Watford Museum will be hosting an exhibition of the women’s artwork for the whole of March to raise awareness of International Women’s day. The private view is to be announced and an event will take place on the 8th of march. The theme of International women’s day is ‘An equal world is an enabled world’, and we believe this should be applied within our galleries. The exhibition hopes to start a fundamental intervention of equality and inclusion into our Hertfordshire galleries. To challenge the absence of art made by women, and to shift the power dynamic from object to producer.
