Healing Poetry

Healing Poetry

CAN WORDS HEAL?

Can poetry help you cope with pain and illness? To find out, you should come along to St Albans Central Library on Wednesday October 19th for an evening of Healing Poetry.
The event which starts at 7.30 pm features four talented authors who have written about battles with disease or mental illness. Members of the audience are also encouraged to read a short poem about healing – and to join in the discussion at the end of the evening.
John Mole has won numerous poetry awards and has written movingly and wittily about his chemotherapy. Wendy French has been poet in residence at the Macmillan Cancer Care Centre in London. She has recently published a book about her experiences Thinks Itself a Hawk.
Valerie Morton has published two books, works as a poetry tutor, and run a workshop for a mental health charity. Rebecca Hubbard is a professional gardener turned creative writing teacher and has written about her battle with disease and the healing power of nature.

Entry £5 (£2 for members of Ver Poets) includes refreshments at half time.
